In this mostly empty loft, we were presented with a blank slate. As projects lofts have the potential to be fun and creative for us and the client. Like most projects though, the space required some definition and attention to traffic flow. Through our attention to color, proportion and details we created a space she loved.
We started with a few paintings that she owned. These gave us the color palette, and direction for the character she was seeking. From our resources, we worked with our client choosing furniture. For the dining area we combined a custom dining table that our craftspeople and artisans helped execute along with dining chairs that our client brought with her. We painted and reupholstered them to match the table in color and style. A rug and hand-blown glass chandelier were added to complete the room.
The existing kitchen area was small and our goal was to open it up and integrate it into the rest of the space. For all permanent elements like cabinets and the island we chose neutral colors. For all interchangeable items like dishes, accessories and wall color we chose bright colors to stand out and add interest. Like the dining area, we added a chandelier to the kitchen which felt like a piece of jewelry that completed the space.
With the combination of a few pieces of furniture and art that belonged to our client with things we sourced, we were able to bring warmth and playfulness to the space that was not only aesthetic but provided a comfortable and livable space. We not only have a happy client but she has come back to us for other projects.
The outcome was artful playfulness and a warm pleasantly aesthetic living space. This project was such a success that the client continues to work with us.
